Friends of Illinois Parks
Protecting and enhancing parks, open spaces, and the quality of life in Illinois communities
Friends of Illinois Parks supports and promotes park districts, forest preserves and recreation sites in Illinois. "Friends" are individuals and groups who share a common belief in the importance of green space for leisure activities, wholesome recreational opportunities for individuals and families, and the preservation of natural resources and wildlife habitat.
FRIENDS OF ILLINOIS PARKS work for park, conservation and recreation goals:
- Funds the PowerPlay! Beyond School Grant program.
- Advances the acquisition and beautification of parks, open spaces, greenways, trails and bike paths.
- Supports the preservation of natural resources and wildlife habitat.
- Helps find solutions for teenagers and preteens in "at risk" environments.
- Supports recreational programs for all ages, from youth to seniors.
Friends of Illinois Parks continues to provide leadership in statewide efforts through advocacy, research and funding to promote the protection of parks and open space, and to make recreational opportunities available to all Illinois citizens.
Friends of Illinois Parks continued to assist with funding for the PowerPlay! Beyond School Grant program. Friends of Illinois Parks also provided financial support for research. Studies funded by Friends yielded information to show that more than 75% of Illinoisans believe a park district improves property values in a community.
