New Rules for Managing Local Electronic Records Workshop

This workshop will cover the administrative rule overhaul that was put into place by the Local Records Commissions in Feb this year. The most dramatic area of change is in the introduction of guidelines for both digitization of paper records and the management of electronic records. A review of basic Records Maintenance processes will start the workshop to ensure that participants have the necessary baseline knowledge for the in-depth presentation on the new rules that have been put into place.

Participants will learn:

  • the proper procedures for the creation and updating of records retention schedules
  • the process for formally disposing of records at the end of their prescribed retention periods
  • new options for managing records as a result of the administrative rule changes
  • legal requirements for the management of electronic records

About The Presenter

Kristopher Stenson is the Electronic Records Archivist for the Illinois State Archives. He holds a Masters in Library Science from Indiana University and a Masters in Ancient History from Washington State University. Kristopher currently serves as chair of the Advocacy and Awareness subcommittee of the Council of State Archivists’ State Electronic Records Initiative and is a certified trainer in the Library of Congress’ Digital Preservation, Outreach and Education program. His work includes guiding electronic records policy for Illinois government agencies, training agency records managers on good practice and developing the State Archives’ digital repository.
