Funding Available for Summer Employment Program for Youth

Applications due by close of business next Wednesday, June 19, 2013!

The Illinois Association of Park Districts and the Illinois Department of Natural Resources are pleased to announce that the Governor's Office just released approximately $3.5 million for IAPD members to hire additional youth for the summer.

The Illinois Youth Recreation Corps is a grant program administered by IDNR to local agencies for the employment of youth ages 14-18 (19 years of age or older for managing supervisors) who are operating and instructing recreational and conservation programs that serve youth. Applicants must be units of local government or not-for-profit entities. To be eligible, agencies must have the ability to provide suitable facilities, materials, and management staff for summer recreational activities for youth within the local community.

Eligible youth may work up to 60 days during the months of June, July and August at the rate of $9.00/hr ($12.00/hr for supervisors). There is no limit on the number of employees per agency.

Youth currently employed in any manner by your park and recreation agency are NOT eligible for this program. Only wages for eligible youth hired pursuant to this program may be paid from funds received through the grant.
